Home Alone

DH is in Bridgend. No problems whatsoever on the trains, despite warnings on the First Great Western website. Although I miss him when he's away I also love having the house to myself for a bit. DS1 has been at work most of the day and I've sat on the sofa watching all my daytime TV and knitting for hours (yet another pair of socks for DH). And I don't even feel guilty about it. He'll be staying with his cousin and her husband and will get well fed and looked after, so I'm taking a few days to have a bit of a break from routine as well. He's had quite a few trips down to Wales on his own over the years and I have never been away alone except for one weekend when DD1 was about 2, so 28 years ago. I think I deserve to take things easy for a couple of days.

I've not really cooked, I just fried a couple of eggs with oven chips and baked beans for DS's dinner. I've been having a veg, fruit and yogurt day to try and compensate before weigh-in day tomorrow for all the naughties I've eaten this week . It's a fortnight since I weighed in and last week I ate badly nearly every day so I'm expecting a gain, just hoping I'll have done enough that it won't be too dreadful.

Yesterday we went to DD3 and BF's for dinner and had a lovely roast meal; lamb, mint sauce, stuffing, yorkshire puds, roast spuds, parsnips and carrots, plus broccoli and cauliflower. Dessert was sticky toffee pud and custard for me and jam roly poly for DH. DD even got me a Weight Watchers pud, although I think the roasties, yorkshires and stuffing probably undid any good work. We really enjoyed it and it was a treat to have a meal cooked for us. They're settling in well and making the flat really nice.

Weather here today was dull but dry, still a bit windy but much less so, and its been quite warm. Of course, tomorrow when I have to go out it's due to rain nearly all day. I hope the weather has been a bit better where you are.

That's all I have for today since I really haven't done much of anything. I'm going to knit some more this evening, and then I get to go to bed and have the whole bed to myself and no snoring to keep me awake. I'd better not get too used to it; DH is back on Thursday.

  1. Malc goes to Family Camp with all the boys in June, he's gone for the last two years and I LOVE having the bed all to myself! Hope DH has a good visit with his Mum and his journey home is also trouble free. Until then, spoil yourself!!

    1. The thing is, although I'll have the whole bed to myself I'll still probably end up curled up on one side of it. At least I'll have my hottie botties to keep me warm.

  2. I am all for some "me time" and an afternoon off hurts no one and gives a blast of feel good factor. keep up the good work.

    1. Oh, I need 'me' time; I don't do too well if I'm constantly surrounded by hoardes of people. I used to love it once I'd seen all the kids off to school and I could have a few hours to myself. I'd get the main housework done in the morning so I could take a break and do what I wanted in the afternoon before they all piled back into the house again and wanted feeding and attention. I still tend to stick to that regime and try to get the necessary stuff out of the way early in the day.

  3. I feel the same as you when DB goes to visit his granddaughter near Peterborough. He`s usually gone for 2-3 days. Utter bliss for me. For those days I also enjoy doing things I like and eating more healthily than normal. Having a snore-free bed time is the best. Make the most of your free time as it`s just too short lived.

  4. DH is only gone until Thursday, so I have 3 snore-free nights. I also enjoy eating what I want, although I still have DS1 to think of but he's quite easy to cater for.

  5. I just had a weekend home alone, the dark evenings seem very quiet, prefer to be home alone in summer i think. Nice to have less washing up!

    1. I'm not entirely alone since DS1 is still here but he's out of the house for about 6 hours a day; he doesn't get home until 10 tonight (Tues). Not so quiet here with the neighbours hosting a birthday party last night. Fingers crossed for a bit of peace this evening.
