A quick post tonight to show the vintage pattern I'm working on at the moment. I bought it for 50p in a charity shop at the weekend.
Not sure why I bought it really since I have folders bursting at the seams with old patterns, but it's not often I find affordable vintage patterns these days, they're generally seriously overpriced. Not having any babies to knit for I'll probably donate this cardi to charity.
I'm knitting it with an apple green ribbing and the main part a lemon yellow, and if it turns out okay I'm planning on making another one with the colours reversed (yellow ribbing/ green main). I'll get two cardis out of 200g of value acrylic yarn at a cost of around £3.20 for both.
Dinner tonight was chicken pie leftover from yesterday served with chips and beans (for DH) and mushy peas (for me). The pie came out of the freezer, a huge one made when there were more of us to cater for, so its done 2 meals and DS1 will have the remainder for his lunch tomorrow. That's now all the sachets of Approved Foods chicken in juice used up.
Tomorrow I'll give a bit of a round up of how well (or not) I've done during Frugal February.
I've got so many patterns that are 40+ yes old from my Mum. My MIL has left me all her old patterns in her will and her knitting needles. She's also left me her diaries so I can see what she writes about me!! She often says she talks to me in them knowing I will be reading them later!
ReplyDeleteSorry you lost your MIL but what a lovely legacy to receive. One of my favourite things is reading diaries written by ordinary women. I love Nella Last's wartime diary, especially as we used to live in Barrow in Furness. There's also one written by a woman who lived in Worthing during the war. I have folders stuffed with vintage patterns from when I used to pick them up for a few pence in the charity shops but they are much more expensive nowadays. I also have an impressive collection of women's magazines mostly from the 1930s, 40s, 50s but also one from 1890.
DeleteI love old fashioned patterns and it's sweet. I'm frantically finishing off a little cardi for my friend who had a baby girl THIS MORNING! We all thought she had a week to go!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your friend. That's the thing with babies; they choose their own time. Mine were all overdue by 6-9 days. I love knitting baby clothes but don't have any babies to knit for at the moment so I'm happy to donate items to charity.
DeleteI love to see babies and littlies in proper baby type clothes, always think it seems odd seeing a 8 month old in Jeans- which some do.
ReplyDeleteI prefer some of the older style baby clothes but I also like to see babies in brighter colours as well as pastels.
