Lamb and Lentils

Why, oh, why is my reponse to having gained half a lb this week to binge on biscuits and chocolate all afternoon?

Why don't I have the opposite reaction and decide to be extra careful with my diet?

I'm an idiot, that's why. In all likelihood I'm now a couple of lbs heavier still since my afternoon pig out. Well, having made myself feel sick on all that junk food, tomorrow its definitely back to healthy eating. I will make that 4st target. I will, I will, I WILL!

Not much else to report today as I slumped on the sofa all afternoon eating and watching daytime TV, I didn't even feel like knitting, so I'll just post some pictures of dinner.

Lamb Mince with Lentils

500g Morrison's Mince Lamb - £2.75

1/4 catering sized tin of carrots (Approved Foods) 99p = 25p

Packet of Lamb Seasoning (Approved Foods 4 for £1) = 25p

Large Tin of Lentils (I get mine from France when friends go over) Approx £1 per tin

Large Onion from a yellow stickered 4 pack at 27p = 7p

I just browned the mince, drained off most of the fat (although it was pretty lean) and then fried the onion in the little remaining fat. I put the onion and mince in the slow cooker, added some of the carrots, which I'd sliced, and then the rinsed tinned lentils, mixed in the sauce mix and about a pint (500ml) boiling water and then left it on low all day.

Total cost = £4.32

There were only 3 of us eating tonight but there was enough for 6, so 70p per serving, plus a slowcooker jacket potato each added another 10p = 80p per serving.

Tomorrow's dinner will probably be the leftover mince and lentils made into a curry and served with rice or couscous.

I also cooked up a bag of dried blackeye beans that I'd soaked overnight. I did them in my pressure cooker as they only take 10 minutes. I don't use the pressure cooker much because I can cook greater quantities in my slow cooker but for dried beans its amazing. The beans were from Approved Foods and dated June 2011 but were still fine when cooked up and will make an excellent vege version of Hoppin John for when DD2 comes to dinner on Thursday.

I'm hoping for a much more productive day tomorrow and more control over my eating. I've worked too hard and its taken far too long for me to blow it and binge all the weight back on again.
